Lady Eagles qualify for NCAA South Regional tournament
INDIANAPOLIS — The Carson-Newman women's golf team has qualified for the 2011 NCAA Division II South Regional tournament, the NCAA announced Monday.
INDIANAPOLIS — The Carson-Newman women's golf team has qualified for the 2011 NCAA Division II South Regional tournament, the NCAA announced Monday.
The bid is the Lady Eagles' second straight, as they also qualified in 2010 and finished in seventh place.
C-N qualifies for the tournament after winning its second South Atlantic Conference championship in three years.
The South Regional tournament will be held on May 1-3 at The Club at Eaglebrooke in Lakeland, Fla. The tournament will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants will compete throughout the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the championships.
The Lady Eagles are the No. 8 seed, while Newberry, the only other SAC program in the field, is the No. 7 seed. Two-time defending national champion Nova Southeastern is the top seed.
The 2011 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships will be held May 11-14 at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich.
The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. All participants will compete throughout the entire 72 holes of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores for each team will count in each day's total score. The number of participants that qualify for the finals is 72.
