Eagles look to stack more wins with #34 Anderson and #9 Wingate on deck
On their first win streak since the start of the season, Carson-Newman Women’s Tennis will try to defend their home court against two visiting SAC opponents.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – On their first win streak since the start of the season, Carson-Newman Women's Tennis will try to defend their home court against two visiting SAC opponents.
Carson-Newman has found a groove over the past few matches, dominating both Coker and E&H in 4-0 sweeps. The Eagles are 5-7 on the year and 2-3 in conference action after the past week.
They will try and take that confidence into two challenging conference matches. #34 Anderson is up first on March 26th, and the Trojans have been stout this season. Anderson is 13-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play. They are tied as the 4th best team in the SAC.
Anderson is coming off a loss to the #9 Bulldogs where they challenged Wingate to a 4-2 decision. Alexandria Braithwaite at first singles and Ensley Collins at the fifth spot were the two wins for AU.
Collins will be a challenge for the bottom of C-N's lineup. The sophomore is 12-1 and has played in every spot for Anderson in the singles lineup aside from 6. She has won her last three singles matches in a row. Westlyn Morris has been solid at six for the Trojans, at 7-1 in the final lineup spot.
As for doubles, Collins and Kate Johnson are a perfect 5-0 in doubles; they are 4-0 at third doubles and 1-0 at first doubles.
Lucky for C-N, Leah McBride and Mar Fraile have played solid of late, winning their last two matches and owning a 4-5 record. Hala Awad has been consistent for C-N at first singles with a 6-1 record. The freshman Kerrigan Spiers has also found success over the last two matches, posting a pair of wins in singles.
In the 16 all-time matches between the two teams, C-N has lost ten. However, the Eagles carry a two-match historical win streak into this contest. Last season, the C-N took a 4-2 win in Anderson.
As for the #9 Bulldogs, Wingate is 11-3 overall and an unblemished 6-0 in conference play. They have won the last three matches in a row, but dropped two points to both Anderson and Newberry in that stretch.
Anastasiia Oktiabreva is the #34 singles player in Division II and is 6-6 in her singles matches. Claudia Vallejos is 5-5 in the second singles slot, while Fernanda Castillo is 6-2 at third singles.
As for doubles, the third doubles pair of Mariia Bobrovska and Vallejos has been really good, with a 10-1 record this season. Their only loss came to Columbus State four matches ago.
C-N will be looking for its first-ever win against the Bulldogs in what will be the 20th all-time matchup between the two. Last season, the Bulldogs swept the Eagles 4-0 in North Carolina.
First serve against the Trojans is scheduled for 11:00 AM at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex. For updates, follow @CN_Eagles on X and Instagram, or check cneagles.com for full coverage.
