NASHVILLE, Tenn. - After a dominant week in the circle, Atiana Stamper (Knoxville, Tenn.) has been named the Tennessee Sportswriters Association State Pitcher of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
This is the freshman's first career weekly honor.
Over the past week, Stamper posted a 2-0 mark in two appearances, both complete games, allowing two runs on nine hits with 16 strikeouts. She went seven innings at Tusculum University in a 3-1 win, allowing one run on six hits with four strikeouts. Then in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Mars Hill, she gave up one run on three hits with 12 strikeouts, her second outing with a dozen punchouts this season. She became the first freshman with two double-digit strikeout performances at Carson-Newman since Lacie Rinus in 2017.
Stmaper continues to be a workhorse with eight complete games and has gone the distance in her last four starts. On the season, she is 9-3, third in the SAC with a 2.04 ERA and fourth with 89 strikeouts. She is holding opponents to a .186 average.
The senior has reached base in every game this season, and pushes her career-best on-base streak to 41 consecutive games dating back to March 18th of last season. The program leader in career RBIs now holds 220 following this weekend.
