Six games in three days on tap for No. 21 Carson-Newman at Triangle Classic
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Another long road trip awaits No. 21 Carson-Newman (14-2), as it heads to Raleigh, North Carolina for the Triangle Classic. The Eagles will play six games in three days, facing five teams from the Atlantic Region and one from the Southeast in Chowan.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Another long road trip awaits No. 21 Carson-Newman (14-2), as it heads to Raleigh, North Carolina for the Triangle Classic. The Eagles will play six games in three days, facing five teams from the Atlantic Region and one from the Southeast in Chowan.
C-N is coming off a midweek split against Converse on Tuesday. The Valkyries got the upset win courtesy of a walk-off pinch-hit home run from Karlie Gibson in game one, 6-5. The Eagles bounced back with a 13-4 win in the second contest.
Ahead of the contest, it was announced that Carson-Newman cracked the top 25 for the first time since the 2023 season. The Eagles slotted in at No. 21 and were one of three teams from the Southeast Region to make the cut, No. 5 North Georgia (Peach Belt) and No. 6 Francis Marion (Conference Carolinas) have been ranked in the top 10 in all three polls.
Senior Macauley Bailey (Cross Plains, Tenn.) was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association's player of the week on Tuesday as well. For the week, the first basemen went 10-for-20 at the plate, slugging two home runs and tacking on 14 RBIs. Against Shorter, she went 5-for-7 with 8 RBI, including her first home run of the season. In the first game against Barton, she went 3-for-3 with 5 RBIs and clubbed the 50th home run of her tremendous career.
Topping the charts offensively for the Eagles is senior Abbi Martin (Gadsden, Ala.). The centerfielder is batting a team-high .500 through the first 16 games, with 17 RBIs and leads the team with 10 stolen bases. The aforementioned Bailey, is second with a .451 average, is tied for a team-high with two home runs and paces the team with 23 RBIs.
Also batting above .400 are the red-hot bats of corner outfielders Addie Saunders (Radford, Va.) and Katey Mathena (Blacksburg, Va.). Saunders is batting .435 and last week she went 10-for-19 at the dish with six RBIs, including a walk-off against Barton. While Mathena is sitting at a .438 average and is fresh off her first career home run against Converse on Tuesday. She is currently riding a six-game hitting streak.
Atiana Stamper (Knoxville, Tenn.) continues to headline as the ace in the circle for Holly Tucker-Vance's pitching staff. The freshman is 4-0 and holds a team-best 1.01 ERA with 30 strikeouts, allowing just four runs on 17 hits; opponents are batting .177 against her.
In the first contest of the weekend, C-N will tangle with Frostburg State out of the Mountain East Conference. The trip to North Carolina will be the first games of the season for the Bobcats. It is also the first time these two schools will face off.
The Eagles close out the first day with a contest against Chowan from Conference Carolinas. The Hawks are off to a 5-3 start and enter after back-to-back wins against Elizabeth City State and Shaw. This will also be the first time that C-N faces Chowan.
The second day opens with a contest against West Virginia State from the Mountain East Conference. The Yellow Jackets sit at 4-4 on the year and enter winners of four straight. WVSU has faced the other two South Atlantic Conference foes from the Volunteer State, opening the season dropping both to Lincoln Memorial and splitting with Tusculum.
All-time Carson-Newman is 4-2 against West Virginia State. The two sides last squared off in 2022, with the Eagles getting the sweep.
Day two closes out with another new matchup for the Eagles as they face Lincoln (Pa.). The Lions hail from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. They come into the weekend at 4-3 to start the 2026 season.
The final day starts with an early wake-up call for a 9:30 a.m. contest against Bluefield State from the Mountain East. The Big Blue are 0-7 to start this season. This marks the 19th meeting between the two schools; Carson-Newman is an unblemished 18-0 against Bluefield State. In the last meeting, the Eagles outscored the Big Blue 27-0 in a doubleheader in 2021.
C-N closes its trip to the Tar Heel State with a meeting against Indiana (Pa.) from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Crimson Hawks have started the season 1-3 and opened the campaign just last week at The Highlands Classic, hosted by West Liberty. This will also be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
