JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman cross country makes the short trip to Greeneville, Tenn., this Saturday, Sept. 27, for the SAC Preview meet at Kinser Golf Park, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
After a week off, the Eagles look to get their first conference competition off to a strong start.
"This is our first time on this course and the first time that Tusculum has hosted a meet," said head coach Brent Borden. "Ultimately, this weekend is about previewing what we're going to see at the conference championship in about a month. We want to look at the terrain, whether it's hilly or not, and get a feel for what race day will look like."
East Tennessee has experienced steady rainfall this week, and conditions on Saturday morning could include additional precipitation.
"Through our workouts, we've learned to acclimate to conditions like rain and mud," Borden said. "We practice down at Mossy Creek, where there's often moisture and dampness, so the team has learned how to handle those conditions. We've trained in the rain, heat, cold, and early in the morning, so they're prepared for whatever environment we face."
The Eagles will return to Kinser Golf Park later in October for the South Atlantic Conference Championship.
"Having a good race this weekend gives us a strong benchmark for where we want to be a month from now," Borden added. "It can build confidence heading into the conference meet while reinforcing that all the workouts we've done on campus will pay off as we continue to get fitter moving forward."
Carson-Newman cross country competes at the SAC Preview meet on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Kinser Golf Park in Greeneville, Tenn. The race begins at 9:00 a.m.
