JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – For the first time in three years, Carson-Newman (13-8, 8-7 South Atlantic Conference) has the opportunity to square off with a top-five team.
The Eagles head to the Abney Athletic Center for a 4 p.m. tip Saturday with fifth-ranked Anderson (20-1, 14-1 SAC).
After winning four-of-five games against ranked foes last year, Carson-Newman has dropped six straight games to nationally-ranked opposition. The Trojans beat the Eagles when they were ranked 18th earlier this season, 94-80 back on Dec.14. The Trojans are the first top-five team C-N has faced since squaring off with fifth-ranked Lincoln Memorial in 2023. Carson-Newman has three wins against top-five teams under head men's basketball coach Chuck Benson.
Anderson has won 15 straight home games - the country's fourth-longest active home win streak. The Trojans haven't lost at home since Feb. 1, 2025 to then No. 10 Lincoln Memorial 91-73. The Trojans have won all 11 of their home games this year, and have done so in dominant fashion. A 61-54 win over Emory & Henry is the only time this season the Trojans have played a home game inside single digits.
Jack Browder enters the contest on 1,859 career points. He is seventh all-time in scoring. Browder is 63 points away from the man who occupies sixth on the all-time list. Ish Sanders has 1,922 career points. Browder is fifth among active NCAA Division II players in career scoring and 16th among all players in all divisions. Browder is eighth in SAC history in scoring, he needs four more points to move into a tie for seventh in league history with Catawba's Jameel Taylor (2014-19).
With 831 career rebounds, Browder is fourth among active Division II players in career rebounds. Browder, plus Hall of Famers Mike Ogan and Tommy Everette are the only three members of the 1,500/700 club in Carson-Newman history. Browder is the only player in the NCAA era to do that.
Browder is one of three active players in college basketball with 1,800 career points and 800 career rebounds. Carl Cleveland at Young Harris and Gonzaga's Graham Ike are the only others in the NCAA. Browder's 831 rebounds are the fifth-most in school history and eighth in SAC history. He needs 23 more rebounds to equal Lincoln Memorial's Emmanuel Terry (2015-18) for seventh on the league's all-time rebounding list.
With 36 career double-doubles, Browder already has career mark for Carson-Newman for all-time double-doubles (at least in the NCAA era where we have game-by-game stats). He has the most double-doubles among active NCAA Division II players. He has the eighth-most double-doubles amongst players in all divisions. Browder's 11 double-doubles this year lead the SAC and are fourth nationally.
Browder is the only player in NCAA Division II to lead his league in scoring and rebounding. Browder is also the only player in the country in the top 25 in both scoring and rebounding. Browder is fifth in scoring at 23.1 points per game and 11th in rebounding at 10.1 boards per game.
Carson-Newman takes on fifth-ranked Anderson Saturday at 4 p.m. from the Abney Athletic Center.
