JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (15-9, 10-8 South Atlantic Conference) and Emory & Henry (14-10, 9-9 SAC) match wits Wednesday night in Holt Fieldhouse at 7:30 p.m. in a contest with both SAC and Southeast Region implications persisting.
Wednesday's game is sponsored by Food Country USA.
C-N sits in sixth place in the SAC standings, a game ahead of the Wasps. Both teams are among the top 10 RPI teams in the Southeast Region based on NCAA data and will likely be among the teams listed for consideration for the NCAA regional when the first batch of NCAA region rankings come out Wednesday.
In the first meeting this season, an 83-73 E&H win on Jan. 7, C-N was 7-of-33 (21.2 percent) from the field in the first half – its worst shooting half since November of 2010. The Eagles finished 18-of-62 (29.0 percent) from the floor for its first sub-30 percent shooting night since Dec. 17, 2014 and a loss at Johnson C. Smith.
The Eagles have won two straight and five of the last six, while E&H has dropped back-to-back games.
Carson-Newman has coughed up single-digit turnovers in its last two games after a 19-turnover game in a loss at Anderson. The last time C-N had three straight games with single digit turnovers was 12 years ago. C-N had eigh, eight and six, respectively, against Limestone, Wingate and Mars Hill from Dec. 18, 2013 - Jan. 8, 2014.
Jack Browder enters the contest on 1,939 career points. He is sixth all-time in scoring in both Carson-Newman and South Atlantic Conference history. Browder is 61 points away from becoming the sixth player in school history and the the fifth in league history with 2,000 career points. Browder is sixth among active NCAA Division II players in career scoring and 16th among all players in all divisions. Browder needs 41 points to move into a tie for fifth on the all-time scoring list in SAC history. Daniel Willis from Lenoir-Rhyne (1991-01) had 1,980 points in his career. Chris Jones is fifth in Carson-Newman history in scoring with 2,007 points, Browder is 68 points away from him.
With 850 career rebounds, Browder is fourth among active Division II players in career rebounds. Browder, plus Hall of Famers Mike Ogan and Tommy Everette are the only three members of the 1,500/700 club in Carson-Newman history. Browder is the only player in the NCAA era to do that.
Browder is one of three active players in college basketball with 1,900 career points and 800 career rebounds. Carl Cleveland at Young Harris and Gonzaga's Graham Ike are the only others in the NCAA. Browder's 850 rebounds are the fifth-most in school history and eighth in SAC history. He needs four more rebounds to equal Lincoln Memorial's Emmanuel Terry (2015-18) for seventh on the league's all-time rebounding list with 854.
With 37 career double-doubles, Browder already has career mark for Carson-Newman for all-time double-doubles (at least in the NCAA era where we have game-by-game stats). He has the most double-doubles among active NCAA Division II players. He has the eighth-most double-doubles amongst players in all divisions. Browder's 12 double-doubles this year lead the SAC and are fourth nationally.
Browder is the only player in NCAA Division II to lead his league in scoring and rebounding. Browder is also the only player in the country in the top 20 in both scoring and rebounding. Browder is fourth in scoring at 23.6 points per game and 15th in rebounding at 9.7 boards per game.
