FINDLAY, Ohio. – Dylan Frein rallied from a tough start to his final round to land top 10 in the field while C-N has their worst day of the tournament to fall two places.
Frein was the best finisher for Carson-Newman. Despite opening his round at five over through the first six holes, Frein made two birdies on holes 16 and 18 and the Eagles' fourth eagle of the weekend on the par-five first to shoot 74 (+2). This is Frein's best finish of the season so far with his 2nd top 20 finish and first top 10 finish. At one-under through 54 holes, the freshman was 9th in the 90-player field.
"This was a really nice tournament out of our true freshman Dylan Frein," said head coach Randy Wylie.
Brady Wentz was the day's best finisher for C-N. Three birdies on the par-four 13th, par-five 15th, and par-four 16th helped Wentz to a two-under back nine, while a few bogeys on the front would land the junior at 73 (+1) on the day. At five-over on the weekend, Wentz was 34th in the final standings.
Theo Baker also had a fairly strong week. In his final round, Baker made three bogeys in his first six holes before rebounding with two birdies on the back nine to come in at 34 (-2). Baker made another birdie on the par-five 1st, but would follow that with a double bogey on the par-three 2nd to shoot 74 (+2) and two over on the week. He was the Eagles' second-best overall finisher, landing at 17th overall.
Aidan Collier struggled in his final round, but drew a positive with a birdie at the par-four 10th and another red number at the par-four 13th. Collier shot 79 (+7) on the day and ten-over on the week for a 61st-place finish.
Owen Larson rounded out the scoring for Carson-Newman with a 79 (+7) in his final round as well. Larson birdied the par-four 10th and made 10 pars throughout the day to finish the week at +17. He slotted 79th in the field.
With two solid opening rounds, including a team low round of 288 in the second 18 holes, the Eagles finished 8th in the 17-team field with a three-day total of 877 (+13).
"It was a tough round today as we didn't start well and couldn't fully recover," said Wylie.
Carson-Newman returns to the links next week for their final event of the fall. The Eagles will travel to the Bearcat Fall Classic in Ninety Six, South Carolina, to tackle Patriot Golf Club on the 20-21 of October.
