GAINESVILLE, Ga. – After shooting 294 in the first round and sitting tied for 7th, the Eagles Men's golf team fell to 14th place with a 309 in round two.
It was an incredible first round for junior transfer Theo Baker. After starting the round on hole 17, Baker caught fire on the back nine with four straight birdies on holes 13 through 16 to end the round. With just two bogeys, Baker logged the Eagles' first round under par in the 2025-26 season with a three-under 69.
"Tough start for the Eagles. It was a really tough day for a young team against the best teams in the country," head coach Randy Wylie said. "The bright spot was a really nice opening round for Theo Baker. We will learn from this, keep grinding, learning, and training."
Brady Wentz was the next best finisher for the Eagles in round one. Wentz began his day on 15 and went on to birdie the next hole. While he fought against the three bogeys he made on the front nine with a birdie on the par five-fifth, Wentz would come into the clubhouse with a one-over 73.
Both Dylan Frein and Jack Bentz were tied in round one with a 76 each. While Frein didn't make any birdies on the day, the freshman recorded eight straight holes with a par. Bentz landed two birdies on the day and rallied after an unfortunate triple on the par-four 11th to go even par on his last four holes. Bowen Wentz came in with a 12-over 84.
In the 2nd round, it was Brady Wentz who led the way for the Eagles. Wentz kicked off his second round with two birdies on the 15th and 16th holes. The junior would go on to bogey the par-four 1st and 2nd in route to a three-over 75.
His brother Bowen followed suit with a 77 in the second round, battling a double on his first hole of the second round to come in even on the front nine.
Frein shot 78 in the second round with an even split of 39 on either side, and Theo Baker would count for the last team score with a 79 with no birdies and 11 pars. Bentz brought up the back end with an 82 in the second round.
Brady Wentz and Baker lead the Eagles in the individual standings, currently tied for 40th. Frein is also inside the top 70 of the challenging field, sitting 65th, and Bentz (76th) and Bowen Wentz (79th) are in the top 80.
"We have to get better with our short game and need to have better decision-making. It is also about controlling emotions better, which are all hallmarks of needed improvements for a really young squad," said Wylie.
The Eagles are 37 strokes back of 1st place North Georgia as a team. North Georgia's Colby Bennett leads the field with a two-round total of seven under.
The Eagles return to the course tomorrow at 9 AM for a shotgun start. You can follow the action live on the Clipped website.
