Golf gets cut short of full 36 on day one, lands 7th through 33 holes

NINETY SIX, S.C. – Theo Baker and Brady Wentz both sit in the top 25, while the team sits three strokes back of the top five.
Eagles men's golf kicked off the Patriot Fall Classic this morning with a strong opening round at +5. They were 6th amongst the field after the first 18 holes. #5 Wingate currently stands as the leader in the clubhouse after an opening round of -11 and following that up with a seventeen under round 2 through the initial 33 holes.
Baker was the Eagles' best in round one. The junior was bouncing between birdies and pars through the first seven holes. Baker was four under through the first 12 holes of the day, but carded two bogeys at the tail end of his round to shoot 70 (-2) in round one with five birdies on the card.
Wentz also put together a solid opening round. The junior birdied his fourth hole of the day on the par-five eighth and was one-under through 12 holes before an unfortunate double at the par-three 17th. Wentz would rally to finish with six pars to shoot 73 (+1) in the first round.
Dylan Frein followed the likes of Wentz. The freshman began his day with a bogey of the par-three third before notching birdies at the 11th and 13th holes. Frein also birdied the par five 18th and made four bogeys on the day to card a 73 (+1).
Ian Schoonmaker was the next best for C-N. The Vancouver, Washington native started with a bogey on the par three 7th but would birdie the par five 13th and the par three fourth. Five out of the six Eagles playing in the tournament recorded a birdie on the 13th hole. Schoonmaker would round out the team score for the Eagles with a 77 (+5) in round one.
Aidan Collier also birdied the par five 13th and also wrote down a three at the par four 9th and would trail just behind Schoonmaker at 78 (+6).
Stefans Spruzs was playing as an individual in the event and carded one birdie in his first round at the 13th to bring in an 81 (+9).
The Eagles went into round two looking to improve, and so far have accomplished that feat. The men began their 2nd round on the 4th -7th holes and have three holes to play.
As it stands, Wentz leads the way in round two for the Eagles, sitting at -1 with three holes to play. Wentz birdied his second hole at the par four 6th and made four birdies on the back nine to cancel out a double at the 11th to come in with a 35. When he left the course this evening, he had finished with a par on the first hole and had climbed twelve spots on the leaderboard from round one to put him in a tie for 23rd. Wentz's two-round total is even par for now.
Baker also kept it clean for the majority of the second 18. Having recorded just one bogey and one birdie to go along with 13 pars, the junior was consistent on the links. Baker had just birdied the par four 1st when the round was called. He will have two holes to play to wrap up round two. He sits at even par in round two and two-under overall in 13th on the leaderboard.
Schoonmaker is on a trend for improvement in this second round, sitting at even par in round two. The sophomore has bade three birdies to cancel out three bogeys and is even par through 15 holes. He will play the 4th, 5th and 6th to wrap up round two tomorrow. Schoonmaker sits in 62nd overall after hopping 22 spots on the leaderboard with a two round total of +5.
Frein has only updated 10 of his holes on the live scoring, which has him down at one over currently. With the scores inputted, Frein is +2 through the holes played and is 33rd amongst the field.
Collier sits at +7 in round two and recorded a birdie at the par five 8th. Collier left off with a par on the par four 2nd and will finish with holes 3, 4, and 5. The junior is 13 over after 33 holes and is 103rd overall.
Spruzs cleaned up his second round as the individual. He birdied the par five 5th and the par four 10th and stands at +3 in round two. He left off with two consecutive pars and will play holes 14, 15, and 16 tomorrow morning to close the second round. Spruzs is +12 over the holes played and 100th overall.
Round 2 will resume at 8:45 tomorrow morning, followed by the final round of the Patriot Fall Classic. Live scoring is available on the Clippd website.
