Hafey grabs first weekly SAC honor as Defensive Player of the Week
After a phenomenal week in the back row, Hafey earns her first SAC honor of her career with two wins this week.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – After a phenomenal week in the back row, Hafey earns her first SAC honor of her career with two wins this week.
Trinity Hafey was all over the floor this week in Carson-Newman volleyball's two wins over Mars Hill and Catawba. Over the two matches, the junior captain collected 40 total digs, including a 21-dig performance against the Lions. That marked the second time in her career that the libero has reached the 20+ dig mark.
She also logged 19 digs in the five-set match against Catawba. She led the Eagles in digs in the Mars Hill match, and was one off the team high in the Catawba match. With 40 total digs throughout the week, the Grand Junction, Colorado native put up a 5.00 digs per set clip, good for the best on the week in the SAC.
"Trinity's defense this week was amazing and was one of the reasons we were successful last week," said head coach Cat Collins. "She had great discipline and shows passion for her craft, always putting in extra work and making those around her better."
Hafey made great reads all week, locking up both opposing offenses. Mars Hill and Catawba both had a challenging time finding the hardwood with Hafey in the back row, who helped the Eagles limit their opponents to a .164 average hitting percentage.
"Honestly, just knowing that my teammates have my back. The block does their job so we can set up around them. It's so much easier when everyone else does their job and they know that I have their backs so they can do their job," said Hafey following the Mars Hill game.
What's more, she was nearly flawless on serve receive. On a team leading 41 receptions, Hafey made just one error for a .976 reception percentage throughout the week.
She anchored a back row defense that allowed the Carson-Newman offense to collect 112 total assists. Her passing ability was so solid that she even tallied eight assists of her own.
"Her leadership and personality add so much to our chemistry, and we are so proud of her and all the work she puts in," said Collins.
Hafey currently ranks 9th in the SAC in digs per set (4.03) and leads a Carson-Newman defense that is 47th nationally in digs per set (16.97). With the help of the defense, the Eagles have won five games in a row and are tied for 3rd in the league.
Trinity Hafey and the Carson-Newman Volleyball team return to the floor Tuesday, October 28th for a battle on the road at Emory & Henry. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
