Another nailbiter ends in heartbreak for Carson-Newman Men’s Tennis
Despite taking the doubles point, C-N fell short in singles to drop 2nd match of the season against Montreat.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Despite taking the doubles point, C-N fell short in singles to drop 2nd match of the season against Montreat.
It was a 3-4 decision between the Eagles and the Cavaliers. This was the first recorded match between the two teams, so that lends the first-ever win in the all-time series to Montreat
The Eagles' doubles pairs came to play early. Louis Keenan and Max Stollecker picked up their first win as a doubles pair with a 6-0 victory. They were complemented by Darko Kolevski and Leo Baecker at 2nd doubles who hung on to win 7-5. This was Kolevski's first doubles match of the season and helped the Eagles get their first doubles point of the season. At this point, Carson-Newman was up 1-0.
Max Stollecker stepped into a big spot at first singles and took a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win over Montreat's #1. This was the transfer's first singles win in an Eagles uniform. Despite the 2-0 lead, C-N dropped their next two singles matches.
Darko Kolevski fell in his first singles match of 2026 by a slim margin. The sophomore dropped second singles 6-7, 3-6. Wade Donovan lost his second singles match of the year with 3-6, 4-6 scores to land his singles record at 0-2.
Boris Jordanov was another positive tick for C-N. Jordanov took the first set 6-4 before falling in set two 2-6. In the tiebreak, Jordanov had a healthy handle on the match, grabbing the victory after a 10-5 tiebreaker win.
While C-N held the edge over the Cavaliers 3-2, the bottom of the order couldn't deliver a victory. Keegan Nelson and Aiden Standefer both lost their matches to let the Cavaliers take the victory.
The Eagles now move to 0-2 on the season but have two more opportunities this weekend grab their first win. Carson-Newman has a quick turnaround to tomorrow, where they will host King and the Knoxville Racquet Club before travelling to Harrogate on Sunday to face Young Harris.
