#27 Tusculum gets the better of C-N in this year’s 11E match
Carson-Newman Men’s Tennis lost in a 4-1 decision to Tusculum in a midweek conference matchup.
GREENVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Men's Tennis lost in a 4-1 decision to Tusculum in a midweek conference matchup.
The Eagles battled with the ranked Pioneers, taking games at every match. However, Leonard Baecker was the only Eagle to finish a match that favored C-N.
With the loss to the Pioneers, Carson-Newman is now 4-13 on the year and 2-6 in conference action. They have lost their last four matches in a row and have not seen a SAC win since March 24th against Emory & Henry.
In doubles, the Eagles took at least four games in every match. At first doubles, Leonard Baecker and Yassin Ali fell 6-4. Wade Donovan and Giancarlo Rosario fell by the same mark at third doubles to let the Pioneers take the doubles point. Louis Keenan and Max Stollecker were up 6-5 in their match when Tusculum clinched the point.

In singles, the first man to fall was Wade Donovan. The freshman lost in straight games in set one, and despite a battle in set two, dropped the second 6-3 at the fifth line. Not far behind him was Giancarlo Rosario, who dropped his match at six singles in matching 6-2 set losses.
Rosario and Donovan had to battle arguably the hardest five and six in the conference. Donovan's opponent, Angus Howard, now has a 10-3 record, while Rosario's man, Reese McCann, is 8-3 in the six spot.
Leonard Baecker was the lone win for the Eagles after five and six finished. C-N's fourth man was dominant against Tusculum's Will Gee with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Baecker is now 5-6 in his singles matches this season.
The clinching point for the Pioneers was at second singles. Max Stollecker suffered just his fourth loss of the year in a 6-4, 6-3 match against Rens Verhaar.
Yassin Ali was up 6-4 5-4 at the third line, but his match went unfinished. Louis Keenan was also ahead in his match at first singles, grabbing a 6-4 first-set win, but falling 6-1 in set two. In the third frame, Keenan was leading 2-0 when Tusculum clinched the match.
With the loss, the Eagles are 10th in the conference standings. C-N also falls to 2-16 against the Pioneers all-time.
Carson-Newman will return home to Mossy Creek on Saturday to celebrate senior day against Pikeville. The senior day festivities will commence at 12:00 PM with the match to follow.
