Sweep of Wasps puts men’s tennis back in the win column
The Eagles put on a strong showing for their first sweep of the season to pick up a win streak on the way to a three-match homestand.
EMORY, Va. – The Eagles put on a strong showing for their first sweep of the season to pick up a win streak on the way to a three-match homestand.
It was a 4-0 decision over Emory & Henry, moving the Eagles to 4-9 on the year and 2-3 in conference play. The Eagles haven't swept a team since they swept Mars Hill on April 8, 2025.
"Good to be back in the win column. Still not our best in doubles but today it was enough," said head coach Nate Gangelhoff.
Darko Kolevski and Wade Donovan worked at second doubles, taking down their opponent 6-2. The two have a 2-1 record together in 2026. It wasn't as simple for Leonard Baecker and Giancarlo Rosario at third doubles, but the two got it done nonetheless. The underclassmen won 7-6 (7-2 in the tiebreaker). This was the first time Baecker and Rosario have paired together this season, and as such, they are 1-0.
The middle of the lineup made quick work of E&H. Darko Kolevski cleaned up at third singles, taking a 6-1, 6-0 decision. This was the sophomore's first win in an Eagles uniform. Wade Donovan matched him at the fourth line to put the Eagles within one of securing the match. This was Donovan's second win of the season.
"Really like our play from Darko and Wade today! They stayed focused and energetic the whole way," said Gangelhoff.
Giancarlo Rosario counted for the final point for C-N at 5th singles. The freshman took down his opponent 6-2, 6-2. Rosario is now 2-9 in solo play.
Max Stollecker was up by a set and was one game away from closing his match at first singles. The sophomore was up 6-2, 5-2 when the Eagles clinched. Leonard Baecker was similar at second singles, having won set one 6-2. He was up 2-1 in the second when the match ended.
Aiden Standefer had lost 6-3 in set one, but was up 1-0 in the second when the match went final.
Next up, the Eagles will host Anderson on March 26th to try to level their SAC record to .500. First serve against the Trojans is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
"We will be back to work tomorrow to get ready for what's ahead this week," said Gangelhoff.
