ROME, Ga. – The Lopers were dominant in doubles, but C-N had a better showing in singles, highlighted by a Leonard Baeker win.
Nebraska-Kearney travelled down to play the Eagles in Rome, Georgia, and certainly made the most of their time in the south. The loss that they handed the Eagles snaps a two-match winning streak and moves C-N to 3-8 overall. The Lopers now own the all-time series 1-0.
"An odd day from changing time, changing to indoor, and others. We still played well in singles. Leo had a great showing today. We still need to get better at doubles and find our rhythm and chemistry. Really good team that we played, hoping to have that carried into Saturday," said head coach Nate Gangelhoff.
It started with doubles, where no C-N pair won more than two games in their respective matches.
With Nebraska Kearney up 1-0 after doubles, the Eagles gave it a good run in singles.
The captain Leonard Baecker was the only Eagle that could finish the job with a 6-2, 7-5 win at third singles.
The SAC's player of the week, Louis Keenan, went down by scores of 6-4, 6-4 at first singles, while Max Stollecker fell 6-3, 6-2 at the second line.
Yassin Ali also battled to take nine games over his two-set match. He pushed his opponent to a 7-5 first set and fell 6-4 in set two.
Wade Donovan went down 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles while Giancarlo Rosario fell 6-2, 6-1 at the six spot.
