Challenging SAC competition visits Jefferson City for Men’s Tennis
C-N will host Anderson on March 26th for the start of a three-match homestand that includes #24 Wingate and #23 Lee.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – C-N will host Anderson on March 26th for the start of a three-match homestand that includes #24 Wingate and #23 Lee.
Carson-Newman Men's Tennis is 4-9 this season and 2-3 in SAC play coming off their first sweep of the season against Emory & Henry. Darko Kolevski, Wade Donovan, and Giancarlo Rosario delivered singles wins after the Eagles locked down the doubles point to capture the victory.
The Eagles will host Anderson first. The Trojans are 9-8 on the year but have found just one win in conference. The lone win for the visitors came just last week when they beat Mars Hill at home. However, the Trojans are coming off a 4-0 loss to #10 Wingate this past Sunday.
In terms of common opponents, both Anderson and Carson-Newman lost to Coker and Lenoir-Rhyne. Anderson took two lines in each match, whereas C-N took one point against Coker and was swept by the Bears.
Mathis Collignon and Vincent Fenollar have split time at the top of the lineup. Both have collected eight wins in singles play and will face off against Louis Keenan (3-6) and Max Stollecker (5-3).
Doubles will be important against the Trojans as well, where C-N will have to lean on the play of their second doubles pair, Yassin Ali and Leonard Baecker. The captain and the freshman have won their last three doubles matches and will likely face an Anderson pair of Fenollar and Sky Thavornchaisophon that is 5-2 on the year at second doubles.
Anderson's team WTN is 17.08, whereas C-N sits at a 19.11 according to the ITA.
In the all-time matches between the Eagles and Trojans, Anderson holds a 12-2 record. C-N has lost eight of the last ten and fell last season to the Trojans in a sweep.
As for #24 Wingate, the Bulldogs have been rolling through their competition. The Bulldogs are a flawless 6-0 in conference and 9-5 overall. They have lost just one conference game, beating LMU 4-1.
The Bulldogs are coming into this match on a three-game winning streak, most recently beating Anderson 4-0 in South Carolina.
In the 18 all-time matches between the Eagles and Bulldogs, C-N has won just one match. The win came on April 2nd of 2022 in a 4-3 decision in Jefferson City. Otherwise, the Bulldogs have won the last five meetings, including a 4-0 win at the SAC tournament just last season.
Carlo Rosellini will be the Eagles' biggest challenge, as the #48 player nationally. Also on the scouting report is Martino Colabella and Emil Remsted, who have combined at first doubles for a 7-3 record in that slot; they are 9-3 overall as a pair.
First serve against the Trojans is scheduled for 11:00 AM at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex. For updates, follow @CN_Eagles on X and Instagram, or check cneagles.com for full coverage.
