ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman beach volleyball's Addie Smith and Camryn Ehlers have been named the South Atlantic Conference/Conference Carolinas Pair of the Week for the second time this season following a dominant performance during the Eagles' opening conference weekend.
Smith and Ehlers played a key role in Carson-Newman's perfect 4-0 weekend in Greenville, Tenn., helping the Eagles remain unbeaten on the season while improving to 11-0 overall.
"I'm super proud of Addie and me," said Camryn Ehlers. "We have definitely been working on things in practice that we know are our struggle points. When it comes to games, we're executing when it matters, and our hard work has been paying off. The whole team has been putting in the work and making each other better. We're all together, and we work to beat the other teams we face, which makes it really fun."
Competing in the No. 3 flight, the duo went a perfect 4-0 across the two-day conference event, winning all four of their matches in straight sets. Their consistency and control on the sand helped Carson-Newman secure team victories over Catawba, Wingate, Emmanuel (Ga.), and Erskine.
Smith and Ehlers opened the weekend with a 21-15, 21-18 victory over Catawba's Lauren Boddell and Payton Fendley before following with a 21-15, 21-16 win against Wingate's London Moultrie and Lilly DeLamielleure.
The pair continued their dominant play on Saturday, delivering one of the most decisive wins of the weekend with a 21-6, 21-8 victory over Emmanuel's Maya Hedden and Maryn Barrow. They closed out the weekend with another strong performance, defeating Erskine's Kenzie Ma'apouli and Hannah Platt 21-7, 21-11.
"I think the main thing our team talks about is that our identity is not in our sport, but it's in Christ," Smith said. "That helps us not put all of our value into our play and instead place our value in Him. No matter what we do, we do it for Him, which helps us work hard. Cam and I are such good friends, and it makes it easy to play together. We never get mad at each other, and we're just having a good time and smiling no matter what."
Across the four matches, Smith and Ehlers consistently controlled rallies and limited opponents' opportunities, allowing double-digit points in only two sets throughout the entire weekend.
Their performance helped Carson-Newman secure four conference wins and extend its undefeated start to the season.
