Eagles Handle Wayne State, Battle Past Eckerd at AVCA Championships
Carson-Newman Beach Volleyball remained unbeaten on opening day of the AVCA Championships, taking down Wayne State and Eckerd.
GULF SHORES, Ala. – Carson-Newman Beach Volleyball opened play at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships with a pair of wins on Friday, defeating Wayne State 3-0 before edging Eckerd 3-2 to remain unbeaten on the day.
"Overall pleased with the outcomes," said head coach Cat Collins. "We won the games we were supposed to win. We came out well against Wayne State, but against Eckerd we were a little flat and had to pull it out."
The Eagles (31-2) started the morning with a strong showing against Wayne State, clinching the dual with victories at the No. 2, 4, and 5 flights while leading on the remaining courts when play was halted.

"We are going to get each team's best this weekend and need to enter every game with a little more urgency," Collins said. "Today set the tone for the weekend. Pleased that we came out on top, but looking to be more prepared going into our games tomorrow."
Tomorrow's matches see the Eagles take on Southwest Baptist (4-20) at 9:05 a.m., followed by the 2:30 p.m. matchup with 3-seeded Concordia Irvine. A win over both opponents would ensure C-N a spot in the gold bracket.
