Carson-Newman Cruises Past Catawba, Wingate
Two matches, two sweeps for Carson-Newman as the Eagles rolled past Catawba and Wingate on Friday.
DUE WEST, S.C.. – Carson-Newman continued its dominant run through SACC play with a pair of 5-0 sweeps over Catawba and Wingate on Friday, improving to 23-2 on the season.
The Eagles opened the day with a sweep of Catawba, controlling four of the five courts in straight sets. At the No. 1 flight, Trinity Hafey and Paige Halcrow earned a 21-17, 21-14 win. Ava Potts and Emerson Ahsmuhs followed with a dominant 21-7, 21-12 victory at No. 2. Camryn Ehlers and Addie Smith secured a 21-15, 21-16 win at No. 3, while Morgan Foy and Lucy Bartee added a 21-11, 21-9 result at No. 4 .
The only three-set battle against Catawba came at No. 5, where Kelcey Peterson and Madison Trondle dropped the opening set before rallying for an 18-21, 21-13, 15-8 win to complete the sweep .

Against Wingate, Carson-Newman once again secured all five courts, but was pushed in multiple spots. Hafey and Halcrow led with a 21-13, 21-9 win at No. 1. Ehlers and Smith added a 21-16, 21-13 victory at No. 3, and Peterson and Trondle picked up a 21-10, 21-16 win at No. 5 .
The closest contests came at No. 2 and No. 4. Potts and Ahsmuhs split the first two sets before closing out a tight 21-13, 12-21, 15-13 win. Foy and Bartee also went three sets, rebounding from a first-set loss to secure a 14-21, 21-14, 15-10 victory .
