CLEVELAND, Tenn. – After the final 36 holes at the NCAA South Regional, Emery Fisher was in the top 45 of the field while Anaelle Picot finished in the top 20.
Thanks to impending weather on Wednesday, the field at the NCAA South Regional was thrown a curveball, initially planning for 18 holes on each of the three scheduled days. Instead, the golfers played 36 holes today to wrap up the postseason tournament and punch their ticket to the national stage in Florida.
Anaelle Picot wrapped up what has been an outstanding career. After a 73 (+1) in the first round, Picot battled through the final 36. Both she and Fisher began on the 18th hole with a shotgun start. Picot bogeyed the 1st and 4th hole, but quickly found back-to-back birdies on the 5th and 6th to take her back to even. She then bogeyed three consecutive, and made two more bogeys on the back nine before her final birdie of the first round at the par-five 14th.
With a 76 (+4) in the second round, the graduate student did what she could with the final 18 of her career. She bogeyed the 18th to start and made two doubles on the front side. She recovered, though, to birdie the par-four 8th. Then, she made four pars and another birdie on the 14th to finalize a 78 (+6) in the final round.
The Frenchwoman finished in a tie for 17th in the 104-woman field with a 54-hole total at +11. She bested last year's ranking by 52 spots.
Emery Fisher also finished 21 spots higher than the previous season at the South Regional. After a first round of 77 (+5), Fisher matched her score in the second round. She bogeyed the first and 4th holes, but fired a birdie at the par-four 5th and evened it back up with a bogey at the 7th. Following that, Fisher made just one par coming in, but birdied the 13th and 14th back-to-back.
After the 77 (+5), Fisher had a tough start to the final round, doubling the 18th. She made a few more bogeys before a birdie at the 5th. In her final nine holes, Fisher cleaned up her back nine with five pars and a birdie at the 15th. She finalized the regional with an 80 (+8).
The junior finished the tournament tied for 45th with a 54-hole total at +18.
This tournament will finalize the Eagles' season, who held the second-best single-season 4-person team scoring average at 304.7. Picot finishes her career with the third-lowest career scoring average at 76.46 and the second-lowest single-season scoring average (75.0). Emery Fisher, with her 75.5 scoring average this year, claims the 4th-lowest single-season scoring average in C-N history.
