ROCK HILL, S.C. - Four members of the Carson-Newman women's track & field team have been named SAC Athletes to watch in the upcoming outdoor season, the league office announced Friday. School record holder in the 200m and 400m, Lovelyne Larrame and senior jumper Brooke Taylor are the two veterans of the group, while Katie Edmunds and Keirieonna Wilson are both in their freshman years.
Head coach Keiran Showler-Davis was impressed by the experienced leadership from Taylor, while Edmunds, Larrame and Wilson all found their form during the indoor season.
Taylor is in her final season with the Eagles and has consistently ranked near the top of the leaderboards throughout the indoor season. In her last event at the SAC Indoor Championships, she continued her strong performance streak by reaching the podium in the long jump. Taylor finished third with a jump of 5.56m. She also won the long jump twice: first at the Bev Colonel Read opener with a season-best 5.82m, and later at the VMI Winter Relays with a jump of 5.65m. In the triple jump, she earned two podium finishes during the season and just missed a third at the SAC Indoor Championships, finishing fourth.
Larrame is in her first season in Mossy Creek and has broken multiple school records in the 200m and 400m, including beating her own marks. At the SAC Indoor Championships, she came in second place by 0.03 seconds in the 400m finals with a C-N record 54.96-second time. In the same weekend, she was part of the 4x400m relay that finished in second with a time of 3:46.35 seconds, also setting a school record. The group of Eagles consisted of Larrame, Axelle Ombelets, Lidija Djokic and Trishanie Warner. The Cormeilles-en-Parisis, France native also set the 200m school record at the Music City Indoor Challenge at 24.58 seconds.
The freshman vaulter, Edmunds, had gotten off to a strong start, placing inside the top 10 at her first four collegiate events, three times finishing in the top 5, and took the top spot at the Liberty Open, 3.31 meters. She soared to new highs at the SAC Indoor Championships, going home with a gold medal after she cleared 3.52m, a new personal best. Amine Kasmi and Alden Wetzel joined Edmunds as the only Eagles to finish on the top step in Winston-Salem.
Finally, Wilson, a distance runner, built off of her debut during the cross country season and carried the momentum indoors. At the SAC Indoor Championships, Wilson set a pair of school records. On the first day, Wilson finished in 8th place in the 5k, and set a new school record at 17:39.17. Then, on the following day set another, with her time of 10:22.75 in the women's 3000m, and she finished in 16th overall.
The outdoor season started today at the Lee University Invitational, and the events will continue on Saturday at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
