Edmunds takes first place in pole vault on the opening day of the SAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

In the field events, the pole vault featured a pair of stronger finishers on both sides. Freshman Katie Edmunds won the event with a new personal record of 3.52 meters. On the men's side, her freshman year classmate, Cadence Dolgin, took second place in the men's pole vault, 4.55m.
Senior Brooke Taylor continued what has been a strong final season in Mossy Creek, getting on the podium. Taylor finished third with her jump of 5.56m.
Elsewhere, Alden Wetzel is leading the Heptathlon and is up on his previous best score from the VMI Winter Relays. He will look to close things out on the second day of the events tomorrow.
Moving to the track, Lovelyne Larrame was the fastest qualifier for the finals in the 400m, setting a new meet record at 55.10 seconds. That mark gives her the 22nd-best time in Division II this season.
Looking over to the 60m dash, four Eagles have advanced into the final round. Amine Kasmi, 6.86 seconds, and Rylan Jordan, 6.87, took third and fourth, respectively, in the prelims. Meanwhile, Taylor Madison was sixth at 6.86 seconds and Shaun Solomon was seventh at 6.89.
Those four will be chasing Catawba's Victor Smith, who ran a 6.63-second mark in the opening stages, clocking the third-fastest time at the Division II level.
In the 200m, a trio of Eagles is heading to the finals tomorrow, Kasmi and Jordan crack the top five, while Favour Ekpekpe, finished sixth in the prelims at 21.57 seconds. Kasmi set the fastest qualifying time at 21.01 seconds, a new meet record and PR. The top five runners from the prelims, including Jordan, 21.24 seconds, broke the previous meet record.
In a year full of new records, it only felt fitting that there was another. Keirieonna Wilson finished in 8th place in the 5k, but in the process set a new school record at 17:39.17.
Abiram Pramod is through to the 400m final, and in the preliminaries, he clocked the 4th-best time at 48.85 seconds. Alongside Ethan Blaylock and Jackson Thompson, all three of the men in the event set PRs.
Finally, freshman Meiah Moss continues her stellar first season, making it through to the 60m hurdles final in the final spot with a time of 9.11 seconds.
