ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the first time this season, Carson-Newman Outdoor Track & Field has a weekly honor. Freshman Cadence Dolgin (Lebanon, Tenn.) was named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference's Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday by the league's office.
Cadence Dolgin made an impact during the indoor season, breaking the school record in the pole vault multiple times. He started the outdoor season by doing the same thing he did at his collegiate debut, as his 4.85-meter pole vault is a Carson-Newman record. The freshman now tops the charts in the pole vault for both indoor and outdoor. His mark gave him second place at the Lee University Invitational during the opening weekend.
It was a nice bonus to a good opening event of the outdoor season for head coach Kieran Showler-Davis.
"Really great day on the track. The weather cooperated, and we got a really nice warm opener. Lots of great performances all around from PRs to fast opening marks," Showler-Davis said. "As always, there are things to improve upon, especially with it being the first meet of the season, but it was very encouraging."
This is Dolgin's second career SAC weekly honor, after he was named Athlete of the Week on December 9.
The Eagles are back in action next weekend at the Don McGarey Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State. That is set to begin on Friday, March 27th, at the KSU Outdoor Track & Field Facility.
