Men’s soccer opens season with a “W”
TAMPA, Fla. – The Carson-Newman men’s soccer team (1-0) came up with a 4-2 victory at Tampa (0-1) in its first match of the fall.

TAMPA, Fla. – The Carson-Newman men's soccer team (1-0) came up with a 4-2 victory at Tampa (0-1) in its first match of the fall.
The Spartans opened the scoring in the 16th minute of action.
Junior and preseason all-conference selection Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) answered three minutes later off a cross from Kristian Speake (Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, United Kingdom) to even the score at ones.
In the 36th minute, senior Joao Dowsley (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) put the Eagles up 2-1; Welo claimed the assist.
Sixteen minutes into the second half, freshman Tanner Heath (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) supplied the Eagles' third goal, junior center back Rurik Pereira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) with the assist.
Dowsley put in the Lads' fourth, again assisted by Welo, with six minutes remaining.
Brandon Loafman put in Tampa's second goal four minutes later on a penalty kick.
The Eagles look to continue their winning streak at Saint Leo Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
