The Foster Files: Oct. 12, 2014
We’ve had a decent week this week results wise, with one win and a tie. Whilst the tie against LMU wasn’t the result we were looking for, and perhaps deserved on the night, it still keeps us well in the hunt for the conference title.
We've had a decent week this week results wise, with one win and a tie. Whilst the tie against LMU wasn't the result we were looking for, and perhaps deserved on the night, it still keeps us well in the hunt for the conference title. We had a long day Wednesday when the original game against LMU was scheduled for, we didn't know if the game was going to be on, or whether the location would be moved, in the end the game was postponed 24 hours and we played on Thursday.
We brought in high-tech equipment to dry the field out for the game on Thursday. We had a helicopter come in and hover about the field in order to dry the rain-sodden pitch, this was certainly something I have never heard of before, and I honestly thought it was a wind up when someone first mentioned it! However, it worked and the game went ahead on Thursday evening. As a team it was a great performance, full of energy and hard work, and I thought we did enough to deserve the win after double overtime.
For the first time this season we successfully came back from behind, being 1-0 and then 2-1 down at stages of the game. This showed a lot of character and a lot of heart, which was pleasing, as we all know this is why we were so successful last season. The first half we ended up getting frustrated and not playing our own game, but we turned it around for the rest of the match, and were gutted with just a tie, however, it was a point gained, and from being in a losing position twice, you have to look at that positively.
We travelled to Newberry yesterday for our 2nd game in 3 days. Newberry have picked up some good results this season and always try to intimidate teams at their field, so we knew we were in for a tough game. We scored at great times, which sucked the life out of them when it seemed as though they would get back into the game. Once again it was pleasing to score 7 goals, but we need to keep our discipline and focus defensively, because we can't concede the goals that we conceded this week when we're in a tight game.
We had a number of contenders for miss of the season yesterday. As previously mentioned, we have Stuart Oliver's against Trevecca, and now we have Marius Staalby and Joao Dowsley from yesterday. All these guys have been fantastic for us this season, and we all know they take the miss harder than the stick we give them. If they weren't getting into those positions I would be worried, but we keep creating chance after chance so offensively we are happy. There's plenty of moments in matches that players take stick for, I for one took a lot of stick last season from our away game at Coker, when a cross came in from the wing and bounced off my shin onto the post, effectively playing a one-two with the post before clearing. At 0-0 that was a huge moment, and would have changed the eventual 4-0 win for us. I'd claim it was a composed move on my part, but we all know it just hit me and could have been calamitous, had it not have bounced as kindly and gone in.
We had to postpone the teammates awards this week due to the change in the LMU game, so we will figure out a new date for the presentations, it should be a good laugh for us all.
We have two home games this week, Wednesday and Saturday so we hope to see you all at McCown field for those.
