The Foster Files: Oct. 5, 2014
This week has been extremely mixed in terms of results. We have played 3 games, won 1, tied 1 and lost 1. It's been a rollercoaster of emotions resulting in a confident victory last night against Lenoir-Rhyne.
This week has been extremely mixed in terms of results. We have played 3 games, won 1, tied 1 and lost 1. It's been a rollercoaster of emotions resulting in a confident victory last night against Lenoir-Rhyne.
We began the week travelling to Wingate on Monday for our rescheduled match. Wingate are always a strong team but we were confident going into the game on the back of 3 victories. Rurik Pereira opened the scoring midway through the first half with a spectacular bicycle kick, something that he has not stopped talking about for days!! Unfortunately, defensive errors led them back into the game, and whilst we had other chances to score, we finished at 1-1. Moving into overtime we were still confident of grabbing the victory, however, another lapse in concentration led to Wingate scoring the winner. To come away with 0 points was devastating, especially against a team who we consider to be challenging for the conference title.
There was no time to dwell on the game at Wingate as we played Tusculum at home two days later on Wednesday. It was brilliant to see so many people come out to support us, and it really gave us a boost, as it was our 3rd game in 5 days and legs were beginning to get heavy towards the end of the game. We took the lead early on in the first half once again through Marius Staalby, who thoroughly deserved his goal after a number of excellent performances. We moved into overtime for the second time in 3 days and still felt we could get all 3 points, but unfortunately had to settle for 1 point. Even though we didn't get the result that we wanted, the performance was much better than against Wingate and we took plenty of positives from the game.
Last night, we travelled to Lenoir-Rhyne for our 4th game in 8 days. They have had a brilliant start to the season and went into the game joint 1st in the conference. However, we completely suffocated them in the first half and confidently took a 3-0 lead. We added a 4th in the second half and remained disciplined defensively to get the shut out too, which was important. It was brilliant to see 4 different goal scorers and 4 different goals, as we look to be more creative offensively. It was such a great team performance by everybody, and exactly what we need for every game.
We now move into Wednesday's game with LMU in high spirits, and once again, we know what is required of us. We kick off at 7:30 p.m. at McCown Field, so it'll be great to see you all there once again in the bleachers!
Next week I will reveal the winners for our 2014 teammates awards. We have 10 categories: best and worst trainer, best and worst dancer, most and least intelligent, best and worst dressed, most likely to end up in a news scandal, and most likely to become a billionaire. This is a good laugh and we will hopefully bring the boys together for an unofficial ceremony to give out the awards.
Have a great week, and see you all on Wednesday.
Duncan
