The Foster Files: Oct. 19, 2014
Well, it’s certainly difficult to put a positive spin on this week, with 2 losses out of 2 matches. However, with important games coming up this week, we cannot dwell on these defeats, we have to take positives, learn from mistakes, and move forward.

On Wednesday we saw a last minute logistical change as we travelled to Young Harris as our field was saturated after the recent rain. Young Harris are unbeaten this season so we knew the challenge ahead of us, but we took on and were victorious against bigger teams last year, so this didn't faze us. There is no doubting that they are the best team we have faced this year, but we competed with them the entire game, and in my opinion, although they probably deserved the win, we were all gutted not to have nicked at least a tie from them with how the game went.
I'd love to know the possession stats from the first half, as we didn't see much of the ball, however, when we did turnover possession, we looked dangerous and created many half chances. We defended stoutly, and went into half-time 0-0. We conceded a sloppy goal after half time from a corner kick, but nonetheless kept our belief and maintained the intensity and drew level off of our own corner not long after going behind. With 10 minutes left we looked around at eachother and belief began to grow that we could either nick the win or at least take them to overtime, however, they scored a good 2nd goal, and got a pk in the last minute, and the game finished 3-1.
It was one of our hardest defeats of the season as we were so close to a result against a very good team. I guess we learned what it felt like to be on the other side of all our victories in the Nationals last season.
Last night Coker arrived at McCown field, with mixed form this season. Once again, we came up short at home. Usually teams make their home field a fortress, but this year we have been inconsistent at best at home, and I believe this is one of the things that has hurt our overall standing. We lost 2-1 last night, having once again dominated the game, but we just couldn't find the net when it mattered and got caught on the counter.
Looking forward, all is not over. We have 4 games left on the schedule, 3 conference, 1 non-conference, so we have to look to finish strong. Following this, we have the conference tournament, and we all know that in the tournament , whether national, or conference, anything can happen. It is most certainly all to play for as we move into the 'business end' of the season.
We'll come back into practice on Monday bouncing with energy looking to improve, and we take on Mars Hill, currently above us in 2nd in the conference, at home on Wednesday at 7:30pm, so it would be great to see your continued support in the bleachers once again for our penultimate home game of the schedule.
Have a great week!
Duncan
