Eagles Post Strong Opening Night at Wingate
Behind multiple podium finishes, Carson-Newman swimming completed the opening night of competition Friday against nationally ranked Wingate at the Wingate Natatorium.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman swimming completed the first day of competition Friday in its two-day matchup with nationally ranked Wingate at the Wingate Natatorium in Wingate, N.C.
The Eagles opened the meet at 6:00 p.m. against the Bulldogs, who entered the weekend ranked fifth nationally on the men's side and ninth on the women's side in the CSCAA November poll. Carson-Newman came in ranked 17th on the men's side and 19th on the women's side.
On the women's side, the Eagles started strong with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay from Emma Bowling, Martina Ivanova, Olivia Kerr Muir, and Megan Corcoran, posting a time of 1:38.60. Delanee Williams added a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:30.87.
The men's squad opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, led by Gabriel Catapano, Arthur Gluzman, Gabriel Morales, and Cody Hart, finishing in 1:23.29. Ryan Berry earned a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.93.
Megan Corcoran collected two first-place finishes on the day, winning the 200-yard backstroke in 2:02.03 and the 200-yard butterfly in 2:04.08. Emma Bowling also secured a gold-medal finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.08.
The Eagles return to the pool Saturday, Dec. 13, for the final session against Wingate, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Wingate Natatorium.
