EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Gabriel Morales delivered another standout day for the Carson-Newman Eagles, breaking a school record and earning two All-American finishes Friday at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships at the Southern Indiana Aquatics Center in Evansville, Indiana.
Morales tied for fourth place in the 100-yard backstroke, posting a 46.47 in the championship final to earn All-American honors and 14.5 points for Carson-Newman. The junior opened the race with a 22.59 split before finishing with a 23.88 closing 50 to secure the top-five national finish.
Earlier in the day, Morales made history during preliminaries of the 200-yard butterfly, swimming a 1:43.97 to break the Carson-Newman school record and advance to the championship final as the top seed.
In the evening final of the 200 butterfly, Morales finished seventh overall with a time of 1:45.95, adding 12 points for the Eagles and securing another All-American finish.
Morales continues to lead the way for Carson-Newman at the national championships, stacking multiple scoring swims while competing against the top athletes in NCAA Division II.
The Eagles will continue competition at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in Evansville.
