GREENWOOD, Ind. – Three Carson-Newman men's soccer players were recognized on the 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
To be eligible for this award, student-athletes must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and have competed in 90 percent of the institution's games or started in at least 66 percent of the contests.
Mitchell Honcoop (Nieuw-Vennep, Netherlands), Jakob Lechner (Enzesfeld-Linabrunn, Austria) and Rhydian Williams (Conwy, Wales) were the three Eagles honored. Lechner is an all-district pick for the second year in a row, while Honcoop and Williams earn their first academic honors.
Honcoop, C-N's top goal scorer earned all-conference honors for the second straight season. He was once again an exceptional midfielder for the Eagles, scoring a team-high six goals to go along with two assists. His 14-point season equals his output during the 2024 season.
Half of the Dutchmen's goals this season were penalty kick goals. His three PK goals tie him with seven other Eagles for the most PK goals in a single season. The five for his career are one off the program's all-time record set by Thaylan Silva in 2021.
Honcoop scored four of his six goals in SAC play, with two coming in two of C-N's three victories this season. The midfielder scored four times in September, scoring in back-to-back games on two different occasions that month. His final assist of the year was off a corner kick in the 86th minute of a 2-1 win in the regular season finale over Tusculum. The corner kick found the feet of Torrent, who buried the game-winner to lift C-N into the postseason.
Lechner played in 14 games with 12 starts to finish his C-N career. The graduate student defender had just one shot in over 1,100 minutes on the field. He was one of eight players this season to play over 1,000 minutes in 2025.
Williams was one of eight Eagles to start in all 15 of his appearances this season. The junior was one of four C-N attackers to finish the year with multiple goals. His first goal of the year came in the 2nd minute of a 2-1 win at Newberry. He added to his tally in the regular season finale, scoring in the 14th minute of a 2-1 win over Tusculum.
The midfielder attempted a shot in 13 of his 15 appearances and found the target in eight of those games. Williams played the full 90 minutes in four games.
