C-N continues early season road trip at Alabama Huntsville
Carson-Newman (0-1) wraps up the opening week of the season with a road trip to Alabama Huntsville (1-0) on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (0-1) wraps up the opening week of the season with a road trip to Alabama Huntsville (1-0) on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
Carson-Newman's first month of the season is filled with road contests. The Eagles are amid playing their first three games of the year on the road and five of their first six games in September.
The Eagles will be trying to snap struggles on the road on Sunday as well. Over the past three seasons, C-N is 2-14-3 on the road and is unbeaten in five straight road affairs.
Strangely enough, Carson-Newman has lost three straight games dating back to the end of 2024, and they have all been games in which C-N has taken more shots than its opponent. This is the first time it has occurred under head coach Stephen Lyons and happens for the first time since 2016. In that season, it happened twice. In nine years under Lyons, C-N is 47-20-11 when attempting more shots than the opposition.
Preseason All-SAC forward Ben Dukes scored Carson-Newman's first goal of the 2025 season in the 28th minute of the season opener. The goal came from a penalty kick, marking the second straight season Carson-Newman has scored a penalty kick goal in the season opener. Mitchell Honcoop did it last season for C-N.
C-N enters the 2025 season as one of the most experienced teams in the South Atlantic Conference. The Eagles return 18 players from this past season's squad and those 18 players combine for 236 career starts. Only Anderson has a more experienced roster based on career starts entering 2025.
Under Lyons, Carson-Newman is 3-0 against Alabama Huntsville and has outscored the Chargers 8-2 in the three wins. The Eagles lead the series 6-4 and have won four straight, after losing four straight meetings prior to the current win streak. At Charger Park, Carson-Newman has a 3-2 record with wins in back to back trips.
Alabama Huntsville is looking to rebound from a four-win season in 2024, with three of those four wins coming in the final four games of the year. That momentum has carried over into 2025, as the Chargers defeated Illinois-Springfield 2-0 on Thursday evening in the season opener. Leading the way in the season opener was Phillip Seifert, who scored both goals for UAH. Brennan LeBlanc assisted his first in the 27th minute, and Donovan Pruitte assisted the second in the 56th minute. It was a game that featured a shortage in shots, with both teams combining for just 10 and UAH attempting seven of them.
Seventh-year head coach John Carrier's team was selected to finish 10th out of 12 teams in the Gulf South Conference Preseason Coaches' poll. Oli Orzechowski was selected as a Preseason All-GSC player after leading the Chargers with 10 goals last season. That was good for fourth-most in the GSC. The All-South Region player played just 30 minutes in the season opener on Thursday.
After making ten starts in 2024, Sonny Wright is back in goal for UAH this season. He made two saves in the opener to post his second career clean sheet.
Charger Park has been unkind to UAH the past several years. It has not posted a winning season at home since 2018 and has not won back-to-back home games since 2018 as well.
First touch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. eastern time. A video stream is available with a subscription to FloSports at cneagles.com/flo.
