ATLANTA – For the third straight year, Carson-Newman women's basketball earned a special mention academic honor, as announced earlier today by The Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes college women's basketball teams across the nation in their respective divisions that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2024-25 season is the 30th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
Teams having a 3.0 combined GPA and qualifying for consideration in their respective divisions are also listed as special mentions.
Head coach Mike Mincey's team recorded a 3.49 during the 2024-25 academic year.
Earlier this year, the Lady Eagles had three players named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams. Makayla Alvey (Dandridge, Tenn.), Campbell Penland (Sevierville, Tenn.) and Tori Rutherford (Rutledge, Tenn.) all earned their All-District honors for the second straight year. Penland was also named the South Atlantic Conference's Scholar Athlete of the Year and Elite 23 winner.
