JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (14-4, 10-2 SAC) is back at Holt Fieldhouse to continue South Atlantic Conference play as it welcomes in Tusculum (2-16, 2-10 SAC) tomorrow evening at 5:30 p.m.
Carson-Newman is back at home to defend its 13-game home winning streak, tied for the fifth-longest active home winning streak in DII. C-N is 6-0 at home this season and has won four straight at home by double-digits.
The Lady Eagles extended their winning streak to four games with a 28-point road victory over Catawba. C-N made 54 percent of its shots to reach the century mark for the second time this season. Last Friday's performance continued this team's elite offensive efficiency in January. Carson-Newman is averaging 90 points per game this month and is shooting 48 percent from the field, 10 percent higher than November and December. The Lady Eagles have scored 80 points or more in five of the six games.
Jennifer Sullivan continues to make her way up the three-point shooting marks. Scoring 28 points on five made three-pointers last time out, Sullivan has 111 career triples with C-N and is tied for 13th all-time. She is 19 threes away from cracking the top ten. This season, she ranks top 30 nationally in made threes, three-point percentage and three-pointers per game.
In the first meeting with Tusculum back on December 10th, Carson-Newman's defense limited Tusculum to 28 percent shooting and scored 24 points off turnovers to collect the road win. C-N also held TU to 53 points, the fewest its allowed in game this year.
Overall, Carson-Newman leads the all-time series 65-21 and has won five straight meetings in the series, all five of which have come by double-digits. C-N has also won nine of the past ten meetings.
Since the first meeting in December, Tusculum has won two of its 11 games and is just 2-16 overall. Both of its wins are in league play over Mars Hill and Emory & Henry. The Pioneers have lost eight of their last nine games entering Wednesday and are coming off a 40-point loss to Coker last Friday.
Playing away from Pioneer Arena has been a challenge for TU. It has lost seven straight road games and is just 1-9 this season.
Consistently scoring the basketball has been difficult for Tusculum this season. They rank last in scoring at just 55.3 points per game and also lead the league in turnovers per game at nearly 23 a game. The Pioneers also struggle on the glass, where they get outrebounded by nearly eight boards per game.
Abbi Douglas is Tusculum's top scorer, averaging 11 points per game on 39 percent shooting. Douglas scored 23 points in the last meeting against C-N, one of her two 20-point games this season.
