Casson named to NCBWA Preseason All-Southeast Region team

SALISBURY, N.C. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced Carson-Newman pitcher Kolton Casson as a Preseason All-Southeast Region selection on Tuesday afternoon.
This is Casson's third honor this preseason and comes after being named a NCBWA First-Team All-Southeast Region pitcher as a freshman. Also this preseason, he has been named a Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference pitcher and a D2 Baseball Preseason All-American.
Casson returns for his sophomore season after tying the program record for wins in a season and leading all of DII with 13 to earn consensus All-American honors as a freshman. The SAC and ABCA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Year tossed 95 2/3 innings, the sixth-most in a season in C-N's DII era, finishing the year with six complete games, tied for the second-most in school history. 12 of the rookie's 15 starts were quality starts and he struck out at least six batters in more than half of his outings.
The Benton, Tenn. native posted a 2.35 earned run average. That earned run average is the sixth-lowest in a season in program history and second-lowest by a C-N starting pitcher. Casson had six straight starts in which he allowed one run or less. In the month of March, he made five starts and won them all while also posting a 0.84 ERA. 12 of his 15 starts were quality starts (6IP with 3 ER or less).
Casson was 13-1, including wins in his first 11 starts of his collegiate career. He had six complete games as a rookie, tied for the second-most in program history. He went the distance in three straight outings, with two of those performances being 12 and 13 strikeout efforts, one of which came against #7 Lenoir-Rhyne on April 12. 2025. For the year, he recorded 91 strikeouts, the seventh-most in a single-season in program history. He posted at least six strikeouts in eight of his 15 outings. Opponents hit just .199 with runners on base and .187 with two outs against Casson.
Carson-Newman is scheduled to open the doors to the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex on Friday January 30th, at 2:00 p.m., starting a three-game series with Charleston (W.V).
