Tuesday brings another C-N, TU showdown
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – For the fifth time this season, Carson-Newman (23-17) matches up against Tusculum (15-26) when the two clubs compete in a non-conference contest Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. from the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.

The Eagles have played well in non-conference affairs this season. They are 10-3 in non-league games and are 5-3 in Tuesday midweek games. On average, the Eagles are scoring at least nine runs in non-conference games. Logan Floyd is hitting an impressive .511 in non-conference games this season.
Junior infielder Logan Floyd (Adairsville, Ga.) continues to etch himself as one of the best hitters in program history. He has 195 career hits, five away from becoming the first Eagle hitter with 200 hits since Tyler Thompson finished with 213 in 2021. Floyd has 147 career RBI and is a career .376 hitter. Floyd has also reached base safely in 24 straight games and his 18 doubles are tied for the most in the South Atlantic Conference this season. He leads the Eagles with a .416 batting average. Tyler Thompson's .438 batting average in 2019 is C-N's highest batting average in its DII history.
Junior infielder Cole Nathan (Knoxville, Tenn.) has reached base safely in 28 straight games, the longest on-base streak by a player for C-N this season. It's a career-long on-base streak for Nathan as well. During his on-base streak he has 32 hits and 22 RBI. The junior blasted his sixth home run of the year to win the series for C-N against Mars Hill over the weekend.
Carson-Newman will meet Tusculum for the fifth time tand the second time it will be a non-conference game this season. C-N dominated the first non-conference midweek affair, run-ruling the Pioneers 15-3 back on February 10th. The Eagles returned to Greeneville for a three-game conference series with TU, winning the series opener and finale to win the series. Carson-Newman's pitching staff has posted a 3.77 earned run average in four games against the Pioneers this season, and offensively, the Eagles have hit .336 to score 30 runs.
Since facing this Eagles on March 21, Tusculum has posted a 5-7 record and enters Tuesday's game 15-26 overall. The Pioneers are 6-8 in non-conference games and have lost four of their last five midweek contests.
They have allowed nine runs or more in four straight midweek contests. TU has allowed at least six runs in each midweek non-conference game it has played in 2026.
Head coach Brandon Steele's team heads to Mossy Creek coming off their best conference series of the season, sweeping UVA Wise on the road. TU outscored the Highland Cavaliers 47-16 in the three wins and scored at least 13 runs in each of the victories.
Heading into that road series, Tusculum had won just three of its 18 road games this season. They are now 6-15 on the road this season. All of their road wins have come in SAC play.
Three Pioneers hitters have a batting average north of .350 this season. Alejandro Ponte's .398 mark leads the team to go along with a team-high 14 doubles. Landon Dockery is the team's leader in hits with 49. He is also one of seven players with multiple home runs this season. TU's offense averages 6.4 runs per game, ranking in the middle of the SAC in hits and batting average as well.
Tusculum's pitching staff has a 6.90 earned run average for the season, third-worst in the conference this season. The staff walks more than five batters per game, also third-worst in the SAC this season. Nine different pitchers have appeared in at least 11 games and have thrown 19 innings or more.
