ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman sophomore pitcher Kolton Casson was announced as the South Atlantic Conference's Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
This is Casson's third career weekly honor from the league office and first this season. He is the first Eagles player to earn a weekly accolade from the SAC in 2026.
The reigning DII All-American tossed his second career complete game shutout of the season, firing seven shutout innings in a 7-0 win over Tusculum in the series. Both of Casson's complete game shutouts have come this season and have been just over a month apart. As a team, Carson-Newman has three this season.
Casson's seven inning shutout came on just 84 pitches. The sophomore did allow a season-high eight hits, but was marvelous working around it. Tusculum's offense had four different opportunities with two runners on base and less than two outs and never scored against Casson. C-N's defense turned two double plays behind him. The right-hander struck out three TU hitters and walked just one batter.
Casson's is beginning to put together another elite season. His six wins and three complete games are tied for the most in the SAC and are top ten marks nationally. His 2.45 ERA and 45 strikeouts are second-best in the league. The sophomore pitcher has tossed 14 consecutive scoreless innings spanning his past three starts.
Carson-Newman concludes an eight-game road stretch at Shorter at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. The game can be heard on cneagles.com/live. Fans can also watch the radio crew at work with a feed of press row on YouTube.
