JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (8-5) plays its final home game in the month of February tomorrow afternoon when it welcomes Lee (10-3) to the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex at 2:00 p.m.
Tuesday's matchup has two of the best head coaches in DII baseball. C-N's head coach Tom Griffin puts his 754 career wins up against Lee head coach Mark Brew and his 732 career victories. These two head coaches are two of just 23 active head coaches with 700 career wins or more. They are right next to each other in active career wins at 17th and 18th, respectively. In DII baseball history, Griffin and Brew are two of 142 head coaches with at least 700 career wins all-time. Over the last decade, both skippers have led their teams to nine winning seasons.
Carson-Newman will look to wrap up a mini four-game homestand with a win on Tuesday. This season, the Eagles are 5-3 at home and 5-0 at home in non-conference games.
The Eagles have dominated their non-conference opponents to start the 2026 season. C-N has won each of their seven non-conference games to begin the season. This start can be attributed to quality balance on the mound and at the plate. Logan Floyd (Adairsville, Ga.) is hitting .600 with 10 RBI to help the offense produce more than 10 runs per game in non-conference games. On the pitching side, the Eagles have nine pitchers that have allowed one earned run or less in seven non-conference wins.
Floyd continues to be an on-base machine for Carson-Newman. The junior infielder has reached base safely in 47 straight games, one of the longest known streaks in program history. He is off to a great start this season, hitting .465 with a team-high 16 RBI.
Bradley Soto Diaz (Davenport, Fla.) has been a great addition to Carson-Newman's lineup in 2026. The William Penn transfer has hit safely in 11 straight games and leads the team with a .475 batting average. The senior outfielder has five multi-hit games over his last seven appearances.
Carson-Newman will be looking to snap a six-game losing streak against the Flames. The past two meetings in Mossy Creek have been two-run games that have featured a combined six runs. C-N trails the all-time series 13-18.
In a strong Gulf South Conference, Lee has selected fifth in the Preseason Coaches' poll. This will be Carson-Newman's second out of six games against the Gulf South this season. The Eagles already defeated Alabama Huntsville, seeing the Chargers and Flames later again this season with two matchups against Trevecca Nazarene scheduled as well.
The Flames got out to a red-hot start to the year, sweeping a weekend series with Tiffin to start 6-0. They hit adversity in their first conference series of the year, being swept by Delta State at home to start GSC play. Two of those three losses came by one-run including the series opener which went to extra innings. Lee has started another winning streak, going 4-0 this past week including a ranked win over North Georgia.
Isaiah French is Lee's best hitter through the first 13 games of the year. The junior catcher leads the team with a .432 batting average and 17 RBI. Three other Flames hitters have drove in at least 10 and have hit multiple home runs.
First pitch for against the Flames is set for 2:00 p.m. A live stream of the game is available with a subscription to FloSports at cneagles.com/flobase. The game can be heard on cneagles.com/live. Fans can also watch the radio crew at work with a feed of press row on YouTube.
