JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (1-1) women's soccer loves home openers. Selina Jud's five-point day helped the Eagles score four times to race past North Greenville (0-2) on Saturday evening at Wayne and Beth Harvey Stadium at McCown Field.
Carson-Newman has now won four straight home openers and has scored at least four goals in all of those home-opening wins.
"Today, I thought we played 90 minutes," Carson-Newman head coach Simon Duffy said. "Some wonderful goals and great strikes. That is how good we can be and I am hoping we can continue that because we have another home opener next Saturday. That is how we are going to word it. This is a great game to build on and continue that momentum, by bringing that mindset forward and know this is what we are capable of."
The Eagles improve to 7-1-1 in home openers under Duffy.
Selina Jud (Wilderswil, Switzerland) wasted no time getting the offense going. A passing sequence between Elly Leander (Clinton, Tenn.) and Molly Bukiewicz (Beavercreek, Ohio) allowed Jud to rip a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0 in the seventh minute.

Carson-Newman quickly padded on to its early lead. Two minutes later, Annika Fend grounded a pass to Bukiewicz who possessed it in stride and slotted a shot into the bottom left to make it 2-0, nine minutes in.
Jud would strike for a second time in the 22nd minute. After a long thrown in, Frick delivered a pass into the middle of the box for Jud, who fired a left-footed shot that beat the NGU keeper to increase the lead to 3-0.

Jud's brace is the third of her career and her 12th and 13th career goals.
"It's so fun to play soccer that way," Jud said. "To score and to celebrate together. It's even better when a lot of people get points, scoring and assisting. Having that feeling and knowledge that we can do it as a team is important."
The Eagles threatened with goal three more times in the opening half. Sifa Morgan (Knoxville, Tenn.), Felicia Frick (Eschen, Liechtenstein) and Iris Palsodottir all had shots on goal saved by NGU goalkeeper Anna Rickle.
Momentum would shift momentarily into the second half. Aubrey Kramer and Valerie Hernandez set up Emma Dennison in the box and Dennison went upper shelf with a shot that beat Berna Kabakci (Zeddam, Netherlands) to bring the Trailblazers within two in the 50th minute.
Duffy's team would quickly respond and shift the momentum back to the Eagles. This time Jud set up her teammate. The senior forward flicked a through ball behind the NGU defense and Krista Nielsen chased it down and blasted it into the back of the net to increase the margin back out to three goals.
"It was massive to respond," Duffy said. "The biggest one is scoring in the first five minutes of a half and they got it. We know what that means, are we going to allow them now to start dominating or are we going to snuff that out quickly. I'm glad we did the latter and got that really important goal. You could see the tide change then."
Jud's five-point effort (2 goals, 1 assist) is the first since Karli Pettit's identical effort versus Coker on September 21st this past season.
Bukiewicz turned in a superb home opener, scoring her third career goal and assisting one of Jud's for a career-high three-points.
Nielsen scored her third career goal, while Frick, Leander and Fend all assisted on goals in the win as well. Leander's assist was the first of her career.
Carson-Newman remains elite when scoring the first goal in a game, improving to 51-5-6 under Duffy. The Eagles also remain unbeaten in games in which they score three or goals, improving to 42-0-2 under Duffy.
No scorigami. Carson-Newman women's soccer has now played 24 games that have been decided by a 4-1 tally. Most recently, occurring in last year's home opener against Union on Sept. 8, 2024.
Carson-Newman continues non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon with a trip to King. First touch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Bristol.
