JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (5-3, 2-2 SAC) eyes down its second three-game winning streak of the season when it faces off against Emory & Henry (5-2, 1-2 SAC) at McCown Field on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
The Eagles have built another winning streak by winning 2-1 against previously unbeaten Newberry on Saturday night. In all five of C-N's wins this season, it has scored multiple goals. When scoring multiple goals under Duffy, C-N is 75-2-5. Another way C-N has produced a bunch of wins under Duffy is when it scores the first goal. It has scored first in all five of its wins and is 55-5-6 when Duffy.
The two-game winning streak for Carson-Newman comes after it last two straight to begin South Atlantic Conference play. With two wins, C-N is tied for second with six points in the league standings. The quality response in league play has the Eagles just one win away from matching their output for league wins from 2024.
For just the second time in the past six seasons, Carson-Newman has two players with five goals or more in a season. Molly Bukiewicz has score six times in eight games and in each of C-N's five wins. Selina Jud has scored five goals. The last Eagle player to score five or more goals in a season was Sydnee Duncan in 2021, when she scored eight times. Only four players in the past decade have reached six goals quicker than Bukiewicz.
Senior defender Annika Fend has been very instrumental to C-N's offense this season and especially this past week. The German defender assisted on both goals against Newberry and another versus Mars Hill to record three for the week. Her five assists are tied for the most in the league and are the most by an Eagle since Felicia Frick's six in 2023.
The Eagles won the first two all-time meetings with the Wasps, outscoring them 10-1 in the two victories. Half of those goals scored are by players on this year's team. Last season's meeting was a different story, as C-N gave up an own goal and suffered a 2-0 loss in Emory, Virginia. All three meetings are since E&H joined the SAC.
Emory & Henry, picked to finish eighth in the South Atlantic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, fared well in the first month of the season. Road wins over Virginia State and Toccoa Falls kicked off the season in dominant fashion, outscoring those two opponents 12-3. E&H's first defeat came at the hands of Anderson to begin SAC play, falling 3-0 on the road. After going 3-1 in four straight road games to begin the year, the Wasps went 2-1 in a three-game homestand with the loss coming in league play to Lenoir-Rhyne. They have won back-to-back games over Bob Jones and Mars Hill entering Wednesday.
The Wasps are led by Charlotte Stavis, the conference's top goal scorer has eight goals in seven games this season, ranking top ten nationally. The junior forward has scored in five of the seven games and has three multi-goal performances. She leads an E&H offense that ranks second in the league in goals with 22, but has just four assists outside of one win. Siena Booth has contributed four goals, while two others have scored multiple times as well.
Two goalkeepers have split time in the net for head coach Filipe Barateiro. Sophia Wagner has started the past two games and has four starts on the year. She has two shutouts in four games, with 13 saves and three wins. Adriana Rehg has made the other three starts, also making 13 saves and has a hand in one of the shutouts. Both goalkeepers have allowed four goals.
