JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman (1-1) will aim to stay unbeaten all-time against King (1-0) when the two sides clash on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in Bristol.
The Eagles have won all 15 meetings with King. In the 15 victories, Carson-Newman has outscored King 53-5, scoring at least twice in each game. The Eagles have shutout the Tornado in five straight meetings and have done so in 10 of the 15 meetings. King has not scored in the last 475:30 of game action against the Eagles.
Carson-Newman won this past season's meeting in Mossy Creek 2-0. Karli Pettitt (Kingston, Tenn) scored in the 11th minute and Molly Bukiewicz (Beavercreek, OH) scored her first career goal in the 72nd minute to seal the win.
After defeating North Greenville 4-1 its home opener this season, Carson-Newman has now won its home opener for the fourth consecutive season. In all four wins, C-N has scored at least 4 goals.
Senior forward Selina Jud (Wilderswil, Switzerland) was a big reason why Carson-Newman won its fourth straight home opener. She recorded a career-high five points, scoring two goals and assisting on another in the 4-1 victory. Her two goal-effort was the third of her career. Jud is the first Eagle to record a five-point day since Karli Pettitt on Sept 20, 2024 versus Coker.
Balanced scoring was a theme last season and it was on display in the first victory of 2025. Six different players recorded a point in the 4-1. Molly Bukiewicz (Beavercreek, OH) scored a goal and added an assist. Elly Leander (Clinton, Tenn.) recorded her first two career assists. Krista Nielsen (Saudarkrokur, Iceland) scored a goal and Felicia Frick (Eschen, Liechtenstein) and Annika Fend (Herxheim, Germany) each recorded an assist as well.
A new era has started in Bristol this season. King hired Kyle Campbell to be the program's new women's soccer head coach in February. He joins King after a three-year stint with Spartanburg Methodist College. He achieved a 30-14-3 record in his three years, highlighted by the program's record for most wins in a season with 11 in 2022.
The Kyle Campbell era has started well for King. After winning just two games in 2024, it has already picked up one victory this season. The Tornado took down Bluefield State over the weekend for its first season-opening win since 2019.
King was selected 13th out of 16 Conference Carolinas teams in the preseason poll. Ella Froehlich, Olivia Seston and Victoria Thauer were all listed as "Players to Watch."
Froehlich has already made her impact felt for the Tornado this season. She scored in the 56th minute of the opener to seal the victory over BSU. Marya Munoz scored the other goal, which came in the third minute of the match. Two different players helped assist the goals scored for King. Goalkeeper Olivia Seston made four saves in goal to post her third career clean sheet.
In Wednesday's match, King will aim to end a five-game losing streak in home openers and a three-game unbeaten streak at home.
