E&H scores late to tie C-N
Emory & Henry (5-2-1, 1-2-1 SAC) scored with 100 seconds to play, to tie Carson-Newman (5-3-1, 2-2-1 SAC) 2-2 on Wednesday night at McCown Field.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Emory & Henry (5-2-1, 1-2-1 SAC) scored with 100 seconds to play, to tie Carson-Newman (5-3-1, 2-2-1 SAC) 2-2 on Wednesday night at McCown Field.
"This one feels like a loss," Carson-Newman head coach Simon Duffy said. "We had more than enough chances to win this game. Just frustration to concede with under two minutes to go like that. It's not like our team this year to be rattled and not play with a good quality. We weren't at our best today, even though we controlled a majority of the game."
With the tie, C-N extends its unbeaten streak to three games its second three game unbeaten streak this season. It's the first draw of the season for the Eagles.
It took more than 10 minutes for either side to record a shot, but once C-N did it would strike early.
Felicia Frick (Eschen, Liechtenstein) fired the game's first shot in 12th minute, seeing E&H goalkeeper Adriana Rehg make her first save.
C-N's next opportunity was its first goal. Off a deflection, the ball came to the feet of Malia Kim (Clinton, Tenn.) who crushed a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner to make it 1-0 Eagles in the 13th minute. Kim's goal was her second career goal.

E&H's first shot of the game came off its first corner kick. Bella Fairley would the header off the corner, and forced Berna Kabakci (Zeddam, Netherlands) to make a leaping stop to keep it out of the net.
Carson-Newman's next five shots were either blocked or off target coming from the 21st through 28th minutes. Its final shot on goal came in the 34th minute from Elly Leander (Knoxville, Tenn.). The freshman midfielder sent a shot from the top of the box that Rehg stopped.
On just its second shot of the match, E&H would level the match. Off a free kick, Olivia DaSilva sent a perfect ball behind the Eagles defense, allowing Sadie Moseley to run after it and boot a shot over Kabakci and into the back of the net to level things in the 40th minute.
E&H took the first shot on goal of the second half in the 52nd minute. Siena Booth's shot toward the bottom right corner and forced a Kabakci stop.
After C-N missed the target on its first three shots of the half, Molly Bukiewicz (Beavercreek, Ohio) fired the first on target, seeing Rehg stop it in the 57th minute.
Carson-Newman only attempted two shots over the next 20 minutes of the match, both missing the target. E&H fired a few shots as well, but missed the target too.
The game changed in the 79th minute. A cross into the box hit off an E&H defender's hand in the box, setting up a penalty kick for C-N.
Felicia Frick, the program's all-time leader in penalty kicks, added to her total by scoring her ninth on a shot toward the bottom left corner to make it 2-1 in the 79th minute.

Carson-Newman nearly added to its lead in the 81st minute. Elysia Teske (Augusta, Ga.) headed a shot toward Rehg who made the stop.
E&H would get the only other shot in the match and it was a game-tying one. Dylan Copeland sent a cross into the box to Charlotte Stavis, who booted it past Kabakci into the bottom left corner to tie things up with 100 seconds to play.
Neither side got a chance to break the tie in the final seconds of play.
Kabakci made two saves in goal for C-N, while Rehg made five for E&H.
The Eagles dominated the shots category, firing off 18 to the Wasps' six. Seven of C-N's shots were on target, while four of E&H's six were on goal. Six different Eagles attempted a shot.
C-N is off for a week and returns to action on Wednesday for a non-conference contest at home with Young Harris. First touch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. from McCown Field.
